Poorly written and expensive for the money.

This book is poorly written and a bad value at just a few hundred pages that's in paperback. There are only 5 chapters but watch out for chapter 2. They cram ENORMOUS amount of definitions and knowledge in that one chapter. What's disappointing is how awkward the writing style and explanations are in this narrative. The author is constantly citing other sources(like I care) and it reads more like a graduate thesis than a professional work of an organization.
Also the price is outrageous. I thought I was getting a good thick hardcover book for the $58 price but it turns out that It was just a paperback? The ISTQB, from what I've been reading is not that hard an exam, and many people pass it by just looking at the syllabus? Speaking of which...the book starts of by quoting the syllabus and when I downloaded and printed that for free....I discovered that a lot of the free syllabus has the same information as this book!
This exam is also an outrageous amount of money at $250 and I'm not sure if the certification is worth it because most of the people in the industry don't even have it. One expert in the field that I saw on youtube, James Bach, constantly trashes the worth of the certification and states building your reputation is worth more in the industry.
I would think twice about purchasing this piece of work and perhaps look into getting the syllabus instead. This whole thing might be a rip-off even though 100K+ have gotten the cert. This book and their organization needs a makeover. Wait for another edition?

Best book to prepare for the CTFL by ASTQB

This is a great book for those who are preparing for the Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) by ASTQB. The book covers all the topics of the CTFL Syllabus in a simple language. Highly recommend this book. I just took one month to prepare for the CTFL using this book, took the only mock exam at the end of the book, and scored a 90% in the CTFL Exam.

I have ordered this book 4 months back. I absolutely loved it. This book is the reason i passed ISTQB test today. This book is god for software testers. Do no look into online software dumps and sample questions. The knowledge this book provide is sufficient to pass exam. Absolutely recommend to anyone who is looking to change career, or like me used to be housewife and after 8 years of software industry gap, i m starting my career again. This is the first step i m taking towards becoming software tester and it sure helped me. Thanks to the three amaizing writers .

The Narrative of this Book is about Amy's Addiction to Drugs and its Effect on her Loved Ones

On her Frank B-side song, "Best Friends" Amy sings, "And it's easy to smoke it up, forget everything that's happened in between".

And that lyric basically sums up her life between 2007 - 2011. This book is about Ms. Winehouse's struggle with addiction to alcohol, hard drugs and her "bad boy" husband. Amy's story here is told through the lens of her father, which is endearing but also leaves the reader wondering what exactly was going through Amy's mind (and it's a mystery that the elder Winehouse repeatedly admits to struggling with throughout the book).

Mitch Winehouse does a great job of illustrating how powerful addiction is - think Requiem for a Dream -style tragedy but in biographical form. That is what it is like to read this book, but there is no artistic element, Mr. Winehouse is simply recounting his experiences in a linear and very matter-of-fact tone.

I have both sympathy and respect for Mitch Winehouse -- handing out Amy's clothes to grieving fans was a remarkable gesture. But as I finished the book, I couldn't help but dwell on Amy. The book is really Mitch's story - not hers. It centers on what it's like to have an addict child who achieved international success at a young age, and what he did to try to save her. He seems liberated by her death but unsettled by the turn of events that led up to it. But even with month-by-month descriptions of her life, I still feel like I don't know her story. For that, her music is probably the closest I'll get.

But this is a 4-star book nonetheless, simply because it's engaging and full of suspense and dramatic irony. And readers will definitely find themselves YouTubing clips of some of the events that happen in the book. And Mr. Winehouse's proceeds are all being donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

In conclusion, Amy Winehouse still remains a mystery, and that's probably for the best, because it makes her even more sensational. But this book will at least fill in the spaces between the spaces of a story her fans lived through.

I feel bad for anyone who has lost a child, but at times I wanted to yell at Mitch Winehouse

I do feel bad for Mitch Winehouse. No matter what else you may say about him, he is a father who has had to bury a child, and that's an experience no one would wish on another. So it's hard for me to criticize him too harshly because, at the end of the day, he's a grieving father and he has a right to his own memories and his own side of the story. He did, however, translate those memories into a book for everyone to see. So I can't read the book without criticizing him just a little.

Amy Winehouse was a troubled person with a serious addiction to drugs and alcohol. She was also a singular talent with a voice that comes along only once in a long while. She made poor choices in her personal and romantic life and died far too young. These are all facts that the whole world could see. And unfortunately her story is not unique. From Etta James to Whitney Houston, her story is one that has been told before. Of course that doesn't make it any less tragic. Like many fans, I was curious to read her father's book, even if I was a little skeptical about his motives. Was he trying to show the world the "real" Amy? Was he exploiting her death to sell his own book? Or was he just using the whole thing as an opportunity to reiterate that Amy was fine and that the press was just exaggerating everything? Shockingly, it was the last one.

Somehow, despite the fact that he knew his daughter had an addiction to alcohol and hard drugs--an addiction that eventually killed her--and despite the fact that he had tried to get her to go to rehab many times, Mitch Winehouse still managed to spin her life story as "not that bad." Numerous times throughout the book he recalls incidents in which people told him that Amy was doing drugs but he responds by insisting that she wasn't or that it was greatly exaggerated. Even his stories about her rehab stints are filled with his own enabling behaviour, like helping her find "alternatives" to rehab that she would find easier (i.e. easier to sneak drugs into). I know it must be an impossible situation to live with an addict, particularly if it's your own child, but sometimes I found his stories maddening.

She obviously was not fine, even if her Daddy thought she was.

Bittersweet, yet page turning.

Downloaded this to my kindle today. I have always been fascinated with Amy Winehouse's story since she is truly my favorite singer of all time. After her death I got my hands on anything new attached to her name. Both this and Lioness are my keepsakes since she's been gone. I have started reading this book and quite frankly I think it is good so far. Mitch Winehouse is not an author and does not pretend to be, yet the story of Amy's existence is very engaging. He writes honestly and candid and gives us the peak into an Amy many people never saw. It's a page turner for myself and I definitely recommend it to Amy Fans alike.

Of all the American divisions in World War I, the 4th Brigade of Marines, Second Division (Regular Army), A.E.F., suffered the most casualties, captured the second most territory, captured the most enemy prisoners and equipment, and won the most decorations for valor. Louis Linn, a young Marine in this illustrious division, carried a sketchbook and pencil stub, drawing whenever he could to maintain his sanity in the madness of war. Several years after the Armistice, he used these sketches to write the stories of events that haunted him, that gave him nightmares, that kept him awake at night. Never before published, Linn's memoir recalls his training in Norfolk and Quantico, life in the trenches at Verdun, fighting at the Battle of Belleau Wood, his wounding at Soissons and again at St. Mihiel, and his subsequent hospitalization. Throughout, his sketches and woodcuts portray the action, providing a vivid account of the war from the trenches.

About the Author
Louis C. Linn attended the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art and the New York Art Students' League after the war. His Eastern North America's Wildflowers was published after his death in 1978.

Linn's service chronology

(From USMC muster rolls and AEF casualty rolls) Linn enlisted in the USMC on June 8, 1917. He joined the 77th MG Co, 6th MG Bn after recruit training. Linn was assigned as a company messman June 1-30, 1918. He was WIA July 19 by a gun shot wound to his right chest at Soissons and rejoined the 77th MG Company on Aug 27. At St Mihiel he was either slightly wounded by a concealed grenade (muster roll) or received a gun shot wound in his right arm and/or right thigh (conflicting entries in the casualty roll) and was in a series of field hospitals, ending up in Orleans in Dec 1918. He was in the St Aignan Casual Company Feb 1-28, 1919. He joined the 203rd Casual Company at Quantico, VA on March 8, 1919. He was promoted to Cpl in May 1919.

A Great First Hand Account

A great first hand account by a twice wounded Marine enlisted man who was there. He doesn't pull any punches and tells it like it was even at his own expense. Linn comments on the endless mud and marches and the horrors of war. Along with the horrors there are also moments of humor and light heartedness. For some reason he has chosen to slightly alter all the names in his narration but these have been corrected for us along with notes putting the chapters into historical and geographical persective by B.J. Omanson. This book is an easy read and hard to put down. A good investment for those interested in WWI Marine Corps History.

Reminding the reader to be more actively involved in the creation of his own reading, Pavic at the same time encourages him or her to read the novel with optimism and the knowledge that the mythical approach is of vital importance to communicate with the novel. In his message through the Pre-Adamic myth, Pavic wants to show that the crucial point in literature is to interpret the archetypal concepts for contemporary man in such a way that it will not be a lecture, but a creative, playful, imaginative challenge. Campbell's three stage quest pattern (departure, initiation, and return) of the mythical journey of the hero operates within the framework of Pavic's narrative.It is initially presumed and then proven that the search for the Pre-Adamic body is a mythical journey of heroes in the novel, that the creation of Pre-Adamic body is a cosmogenic myth, and that Pavic is a modern myth maker.
