This book is a waste of money

I thought this book would have recipes for home made skin care and health remedies, but there were very few at all. The author did have lists of plants with medicinal and cosmetic benefits, but did not indicate what form these plants were available in -- powders? liquids? solids? oils?. Well, now that I know what plants I could use- how do I put ingredients together. The cover shows soap and lotion. There were no recipes to actually make these. This book is a waste of money.

I've also learned about the benefits of berries. There are so many things that we can do to take care of our health and this book explains that.

A marvellous collection of stories in a superb edition – very enjoyable

I agree with the other reviewer. What a fantastic book of stories. It is amazing that the writer has been completely neglected. His life story reads like an adventure novel and he packed more into it than Hemingway and Jack London put together. This volume brings together 30 of Morley Roberts’s very best stories and they are absolute gems. The introduction is first class and the footnotes very helpful and interesting. This must be one of the best editions of an unknown Victorian writer I have ever come across. I recommend this volume to anyone who likes Victorian or Edwardian literature and especially Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson, Kipling, H. G. Wells, Somerset Maugham, and Joseph Conrad. Many of the stories are similar in style to those writers. There are sea stories, weird stories, humorous stories, tales of adventure in America and Australia, and tales of everyday life in the men's clubs and the foggy streets of 1890s London. I really liked “The Miracle of the Black Canon,” “The Anticipator,” “The Crowd,” “Jack-All-Alone,” “Captain Pasco’s First Cyclone,” and “The Fog,” and the articles in the appendix especially the one about how Roberts traveled half way around the world and contrived to meet Robert Louis Stevenson on his South Sea Island.

Wonderful Stories by a Fine Storyteller � la Jack London

I had never heard of Morley Roberts before but what an interesting man he seems to have been. I wonder how many other forgotten writers there are waiting to be discovered. He wrote such a variety of stories and they are immensely entertaining. And this is an excellent edition with lots of fascinating biographical information about Roberts. His stories are set all over the world and based on his own wide experience of life. For he worked his way all over America, Canada, and Australia variously as a sailor, railway worker, miner, sheepman, boundary rider, and back in London worked as a civil servant in the India Office and War Office for five years. What a discovery! A great read.

The Absolute Best

This is absolutely the best "how to" book on Arabic calligraphy!! I have searched for years to find the perfect book and my perseverance has paid off. This book shows everything needed to be an expert in the fine art of Arabic calligraphy. I have made my own pens, as per the author's instructions, and I must say that that exercise alone prepared my for the task ahead.

I have coupled this book with others that I have on the history of the script and the language; a very good mix. Excellent book; it accomplishes all it claims.

A Must For Calligraph-a-holics!

Though I've only read through this book, not yet having 'road-tested' it, I am thoroughly delighted in finding this slim volume and hope that further series (amateur, advanced, specialised) are forthcoming.
For starters, I think it should be stated that this book is not for someone who wants to gain an understanding of the Arabic alphabet, i.e. pronunciation. This is a book for someone who knows what the letters sound like and has a pretty good understanding of which letter is which. I don't see this as a fault at all and I hope no one else does. At some point, you have to stop second guessing your audience. That said, this book carefully details, just as Roman alphabet calligraphy books, the finer points of how to scribe each and every letter of the Arabic alphabet. All in all, this book is excellent for someone wanting more than the average 'how to write arabic' primer. It gives proper form as a guideline, while expressing that of course ideals cannot be exact on every writing. It gives hints on how to perfect the line of each letter and the best part: it carefully goes over possible forms and joinings of seperate letters with each other. There is a brief display of ligatures, which the author states is a whole new subject outside the scope of the book. I can only hope that is his way of hinting at a sequel!

The book initially describes how to collect and handle blood samples from birds to best preserve the quality of the blood. This rich resource aids interpretation of hematological data, covering both healthy and diseased birds. The Atlas is illustrated throughout with colour photographs, and covers over 100 species of birds.

Basic and comparative aspects of avian hematology in healthy birds are described, including the variation in hematological characteristics between different Orders.
Hematological responses to disease are illustrated through brief case reports.
Identification of hematoparasites is covered.
Emphasis is placed on the morphology of hematological cells to ensure accurate classification plus identification of pathological changes.

About the Author
Phillip Clark is a veterinary clinical pathologist with special interest in comparative hematology. Formerly Director of Clinical Pathology Services of the Division of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at Murdoch University, Australia. Dr Clark has written numerous scientific articles.

Wayne Boardman is Head of Veterinary Conservation Programs at Zoos South Australia, and formerly head of Veterinary Services at the Zoological Society of London, UK. He is a veterinarian with a large amount of experience with zoo and wild animals, including many species of birds.

Shane Raidal is Head of Veterinary Pathobiology at Charles Sturt University, Australia. Associate Professor Raidal is a specialist in avian health, and author of numerous scientific articles.

This lavishly illustrated text covers a range of topics from blood collection and handling, hematological characteristics of birds, pathological and physiological influences on avian hematology to a brief but useful foray into the world of avian hemoparasites.

Ambitious in its scope (covering over 100 species of birds from diverse Orders), it succeeds in defining many of the particular hematological characteristics of diverse bird lineages and yet still remains a concise and practical reference for use by avian clinical pathologists as well as avian clinicians in private, zoo and wildlife focused settings. Furthermore, biologists and ecologists investigating the health of free-ranging birds will find this book particularly useful. Its strength lies in its clear descriptive text, accompanied by a wealth of full-color photomicrographs.

Such an Inspiration

I originally found this book at a PaperSource shop. When I went back to get it, it was sold out so I was ecstatic when I saw it on Amazon. Love the inspirational quotes and fun polaroid photos. A lot of times we end up living our lives for others. When you read this book it encourages you to connect back to your true self to find the beautiful, confident and strong women that are truly are. Highly recommend - I am Her.

The copy i bought said it was used by you'd never know it. I saw this in the gift shop at the Space Needle, flipped through it & loved what I saw. Visually its beautiful (the cool colors remind me of Seattle, where the author is from). The quotes are inspiring and I love that she provides you with areas to write about how you are going to use that inspiriation. I got this book while going through a very nasty divorce and many times its given me the little pickup that I need. I want to buy it for every woman I know who needs to remember how amazing she is.

I love this book and bought a second for a friend as a gift. I like to read through it casually and gain a little more inspiration on how I can change and how I want people to view me as I see myself grow into these good qualities talked about in the book. It's a very simple and scrapbookie book, but it's a great 10 minute read!

A Huge Help With Homework

This is a heavy book. Even though my son's school provided a copy for him, we
are glad to have the this extra copy at home for his use. As for content I can't really
rate this but I do like the way this book is written and organized, especially the vocabulary.
Also, the diagrams are well detailed.
