Be it as a person's counselor or as a founding member of facilities for the homeless, Kevin Everett FitzMaurice, M.S., NCC, CCMHC, LPC, seeks to make others' lives better by helping others improve how they function. As a volunteer, he supports community services to improve others' living conditions. As a counselor, he "counsels" in the traditional sense: advising, directing, and nudging--or pushing--others into facing and resolving their issues.

Mr. FitzMaurice has a variety of formal and advanced training in counseling, which includes Addictions Counseling, Family Therapy, advanced Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), and over 1300 hours of diverse training for continuing education units (CEUs). To make the best use of that extensive training, he takes an integrative approach, grounding himself in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and using the other theories to build upon that one core theory, rather than focusing on multiple theories and mastering none of them.

After more than twenty years in counseling, Mr. FitzMaurice has worked four years in the substance abuse field, directed two community mental health programs, and spent fourteen years counseling in private practice. In that time, he has refined many principles for and methods of counseling. He now puts those principles and methods into book form to share them with a wider audience, so more people can benefit than he can reach in person. This play is wildly brilliant. One of Szymkowicz's darker pieces, Pretty Theft creates unique characters that are all fascinating; however, each role still remains grounded and oddly human. This script is a hard one to put down, as it explores the more upsetting aspects of the human spirit and the way cruelty can often lead to self-discovery. This playwright masterfully creates a contemporary dystopia that will have you talking about it for months after you finish the last page. Order it now, because I'm not lending out my copy :)

She jets off to the UK envisioning a charmed life where a handsome, rich Englishman will sweep her off her feet. After a confrontation with Ethan, she decides it's time for radical change. Making an unsympathetic character likable isn't an easy thing to do, but that's just what Giffin succeeds at in her second outing. SO much better than the prequel!!!

I couldn't stand Something Borrowed- I hated Rachel from the onset for her whiny, "woe-is-me my best friend is prettier than me" attitude and how she uses that as a justification for sleeping with her best friend's fiance. But I bought the books together and I have a lot of time so I read this one too...

And I really liked Darcy's story! Even though she starts off vain and shallow she is a MUCH more interesting and fun character to read about than spineless, whiny, boring, self-righteous Rachel.

The story is about Darcy's change and growth and even though about halfway through you know exactly what's going to happen, I still really enjoyed reading it, and wished there had been more. :)

Soo in summary- if you're one of those women who loooved Rachel (for reasons I absolutely do not understand) and couldn't stand Darcy in Something Borrowed, you probably won't like this book. But if you didn't buy Rachel's "ugly, shy friend" justifications for sleeping with Dex and were irritated by the first book, read this one!!! It's much better!

Sleeping with your friends man. Part 2

This buy was a must buy after reading the first one! I didn't realize the first book had a sequel to it so once I had finished reading it and was left hanging, I thought "this isn't right" so I went online and found this! I could barely stand it waiting for this to arrive to find out what happened. This book was very unexpected for me. I remember thinking that several times while reading it. The first one was better but this one gives you closure on the whole thing. They are both necessary to read and enjoyable too. I look forward to finding more good reads from this author

Have you ever wanted to smack a fictional character?

Darcy was born beautiful. Really... it's true. Just ask her. She will be the first to tell you that she is perfect. She loves that men find her attractive so it's no big surprise that she is stunned to find that her fiance friend Marcus takes work. Oh but never fear, Darcy continues to work her magic until she gets her way... only to be truly shocked and offended when she finds out fer fiance Dex, has also found his way to another... her best friend Rachel.

Oh the nerve of some people! While yes, Darcy to has cheated with Marcus (more than once but really who is counting) she is still appalled to think that Dex and Rachel had done the unthinkable to her. Yes... once again it is all about Darcy...

and as the title suggests....

she turns out to be pregnant with Marcus's child... a child he does not want... and in fact he's pretty tired of Darcy's uppity ways as well. Darcy quickly finds herself without a place to stay, so she packs her bags and goes to London to stay with her writer friend Ethan... only the life lessons continue as Ethan's flat isn't "all that" and he is not about to put up with selfish behavior.

Oh whats a girl to do.... and a pregnant one at that....

Occasionally I enjoy a bit of a fluff read. Just a fun, no thinking involved read. When I found this audio on Amazon I thought I would give this audio a try. A series of emotions came forth as I listened to this audio:

disbelief

annoyance

horrified

disgusted

cautiously optimistic

passive

accepting

Ugghhh.... it's almost like the stages of grief. :razz: I started out not liking Darcy at all. Really there was nothing to like. She is an extremely self-centered character who only cared about making sue all men had eyes only for her, always wanting what she could not have until she got it... and then drinking while pregnant just about pushed me over the edge. Fictional character or not, I was about to take Darcy out.

Then.... slowly.... she began to change, in an almost predictable way, she learns the errors of her ways and well... you will just have to read it to see exactly what that means.

This is the sequel to Something Borrowed which I have not read. ( I heard it was a movie and I was going to try to see it before I listened to this audio but I did not... I still may watch it at some point.) However I don't think I missed anything by diving into this one, the characters were easy to figure out where they stood.

In recap.... I didn't hate it. It actually grew on me a bit. Not so much as I would pursue the series, but in the end I may have been able to have lunch with Darcy without stabbing her in the neck with my fork.

Great set

An excellent introduction to Plato's philosophy. If you're interested in the historical figure of Socrates, these dialogues are most are most concerned with his life.

Philosophically, these "Five Dialogues"--Euthyphro, Apology, Crito, Meno, Phaedo--along with Phaedrus, Symposium and the Republic form the bulk of Plato's thought on Forms and the soul. This is a great place to start. The Euthyphro is a typical early dialogue and sets the stage for the charges that face later Socrates in the Apology. Both are very readable. Crito and Phaedo show Socrates in prison accepting his fate with poise and refusing to escape. They are also the most vivid explanation of the immortality of the soul. Meno is a middle dialogue that poses important problems of knowledge and learning resolved by the theory of Forms and Recollection. It's also the most difficult and rewarding of the bunch.

This Hackett edition is nice but not great. The dialogues are the Grube translation, edited by Cooper. The introduction by Grube is rather short and just explains the logic behind the grouping of the five dialogues, which is disappointing compared to other Hackett's. However, the translation is good, if a bit literal. There are explanatory footnotes for all of Socrates' idioms and historical references.

The margins and book design are nice and readable for such a compact book. The main advantage this little 8x5 paperback has is that it's cheap, easy to carry, and perfect for writing in. I feel the same way about the other excellent Hackett editions of "Symposium", "Phaedrus", and "Laches and Charmides". Now that my interest in Plato has solidified, I will likely invest in the Hardcover collection "Plato: Complete Works". However, you will miss out on the introductions found in the individual Hackett's, in particular Symposium's and Phaedrus which are fantastic.

Considerably Profound yet Easy to Read

The philosophies of Socrates and Plato have transcended generations for thousands of years and are still considered the foundation of all modern philosophy. Although the authenticity of even the existence of Socrates is not entirely clear, the dialogs presented by Plato offer a powerful illustration of reason and wisdom presented in an easily read format.

Socrates has a remarkable wit and sense about his demeanor; admitting full ignorance yet displaying true wisdom in his manner of questioning. The first dialog with Euthyphro exemplifies the power of clarity and simplification by how quickly Socrates is able to identify contradictory statements in Euthyphro's reasoning merely by asking questions. It is immediately obvious how profound this dialog is shown by Socrates' ability to quickly discover either truth or ignorance, and his intention will give pause to any reader.

The Apology and the dialogs with Crito and Meno all further define Socrates' thoughts on life and character encircled around his trial, conviction, and eventual death; each dialog as profound as the next. The concluding dialog with Phaedo is a discussion of Socrates' views on the afterlife, which includes a powerful rationale for his beliefs. If you seek to explore ideas regarding life and death, this dialog is essential reading.

This book is short and easily read yet contains considerable thought provoking material. Among the abundance of books available on philosophy, the Five Dialogs should be among the first for anyone with an interest in the matter.

While only five of the dialogues are included, I regard and urge everyone to read this remarkable little book. Of course the Platonic Dialogues constitute a fundamental foundation upon which all Western philosophy is constructed. To read Plato and Aristotle is to intellectual equip ones self with lens threw which critical reasoning can be pursued. I could read and reread the Apology every month and always find some new insight.
